Abu Dhabi 3-Day Itinerary: Mosque, Louvre, Yas and Desert

Abu Dhabi in 3 days: Grand Mosque, Qasr Al Watan, one Yas Island park and the Louvre, with the Friday mosque break and swaps for heat, rain and kids.

Abu Dhabi 3-Day Itinerary: Mosque, Louvre, Yas and Desert
On this page

Most three-day Abu Dhabi plans fail at the same point: they put two Yas Island theme parks into one day. Yas Island's own FAQ says each park needs six to seven hours to do properly, so that day ends with one park finished and another half-seen. The second trap is the calendar: the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque has a midday break on Fridays, so decide which day you visit it before you book anything else. Build your days around that break and the one-park-per-day rule, and the rest of the plan falls into place.

This itinerary gives you one theme per day: mosque and palaces on Day 1, Yas Island on Day 2, and Saadiyat museums or a desert evening on Day 3. Every day has a swap if you're travelling with kids, or if it's too hot or wet to be outside.

👉 Book Louvre Abu Dhabi tickets → The Louvre anchors Day 3, so pick its date first, check that day's hours on the official calendar, and build the other days around it.

  • Day 1, culture on the mainland: Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Qasr Al Watan, and Qasr Al Hosn if you still have energy.
  • Day 2, Yas Island: one theme park, done properly. Warner Bros. World and SeaWorld are indoors, so they work in any weather.
  • Day 3, Saadiyat: Louvre Abu Dhabi in the morning, then Zayed National Museum, Natural History Museum or teamLab Phenomena. Or swap the afternoon for a desert safari.
  • Calendar trap: the Grand Mosque on Fridays is open 9:00–11:30 and then 14:30–20:30.
  • Dress code: shoulders and knees covered at the mosque and at Qasr Al Watan. Pack one outfit that works for both.
  • Book ahead: the Grand Mosque asks visitors to book an online access pass, and Yas Island multi-park tickets are dated.

Abu Dhabi attractions don't all keep the same hours. Before you assign Day 1, 2 and 3, look at this table and move the fixed-day stops to the right dates. Times below come from each attraction's official website.

AttractionOpening patternWhat it means for your plan

Qasr Al HosnSaturday–Thursday 9:00–20:00. Friday 14:00–20:00.Good late-afternoon stop. On Friday it only opens after lunch.
Zayed National MuseumDaily 10:00–20:00. Last entry one hour before closing.Easy to fit around other plans, because the hours are the same every day.
Natural History Museum Abu DhabiMonday–Thursday 10:00–18:30, Friday–Sunday 10:00–20:30. Last entry 45 minutes before closing.Open every day, but closes earlier on weekdays.
teamLab PhenomenaDaily 10:00–22:00, last entry 20:00. On Monday–Thursday, the last entry for under-18s is 16:30.Good for an evening, but bring teenagers before 16:30 on weekdays.

Opening hours can change around public holidays and special events, so check the attraction's own page a few days before you go.

Day 1 stays on the mainland and is mostly about architecture and history. It's also the easiest day to shift around, because none of these stops is tied to a specific park or show time.

Arrive when the doors open at 9:00 on any day except Friday, when the morning slot closes at 11:30. Visitors need to book an online access pass in advance, so sort that out the day before rather than at the gate.

The dress code is strict. Women wear loose clothing to the ankles, with sleeves to the wrists and the hair fully covered. Men are asked to cover their legs, and sleeveless, tight or transparent clothes aren't permitted. Photos are only allowed at designated stops, and you can't bring food or drink inside, except water.

The mosque offers complimentary guided cultural tours of about 45 minutes in Arabic and English. If you only have three days, that tour is a better use of your time than wandering alone, because it explains what you're looking at.

Qasr Al Watan is the palace stop on this trip. Its dress code is lighter than the mosque's, but still firm: knees and shoulders covered, and no flip-flops.

The security check is airport-style. Bags larger than 500 × 350 mm are refused, and there are no lockers. Leave the big backpack at the hotel. The palace's own FAQ lists free parking and a free shuttle.

👉 Book Qasr Al Watan tickets → Check the dress code and bag rules before you go, and leave the oversized bag at the hotel.

Qasr Al Hosn is the oldest building on Abu Dhabi Island, and it closes at 20:00 (Saturday–Thursday) or 14:00–20:00 on Fridays. The House of Artisans, the Cultural Foundation and the landscaped grounds are complimentary, which makes it a good last stop when you're tired and don't want another full ticketed visit.

If you want to see Qasr Al Hosn on its own, see the Qasr Al Hosn tickets.

Yas Island has four theme parks: Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld, Warner Bros. World and SeaWorld. According to Yas Island's own FAQ, each takes six or seven hours to cover individually, so plan on one park per day. If you want more, a Multi-Park Experience covers two, three or four of the parks on one booking.

The official terms say you redeem the ticket at your first park on the date printed on it, and you then have six calendar days from that first visit to use the remaining entries. The ticket is non-transferable, so every entry has to be used by the same person. Yas Island says you can save between AED 200 and 700 depending on which option you choose.

If you're giving Yas Island only one day, a single-park ticket is the simpler choice. The multi-park pass makes more sense if you stay longer than three days. Our multi-park pass vs single tickets guide breaks down the maths.

Warner Bros. WorldFamilies, film fans, mixed agesThe official site calls it the world's biggest indoor theme park, and it's fully climate-controlled. Six lands include Gotham City, Metropolis, Bedrock and Cartoon Junction.
SeaWorld Abu DhabiAnimal lovers, quieter paceDescribed as the world's largest indoor marine life theme park, with 8 realms and over 100 animal experiences and presentations.
Ferrari WorldTeenagers and thrill-seekersRides can be unavailable on any given day, so check the park's official ride list before you go.
Yas WaterworldWater rides and a full day outTake a change of clothes, and check the park's official page for ride availability on your date.

If you can't decide between the two big indoor-or-thrill options, read Ferrari World vs Warner Bros. World.

👉 Book Warner Bros. World tickets → The most dependable pick if the forecast is hot or wet, because the whole park is indoors.

  • Getting there from Abu Dhabi city: Yas Island runs free shuttle buses from Abu Dhabi City (Route D). Stops include Warner Bros. World and Yas Waterworld, SeaWorld, and Ferrari World. Timetables are approximate, so check the current schedule before you set off.
  • Food and drink: the official multi-park terms say you can't bring food or drinks into the park.
  • Entry: multi-park tickets use FacePass or fingerprint biometric checks. If you opt out, you must carry original government-issued photo ID on every visit.
  • Little ones: children aged two or younger enter free, and from age three regular prices apply, paid at the park.

Browse everything on the island in one place in the Yas Island tickets category.

Day 3 is the flexible one. The Louvre Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum, Natural History Museum and teamLab Phenomena are all in Saadiyat Cultural District or on Saadiyat Island, so you can chain two of them without crossing the city. Choose a version below.

VersionPlanChoose it if
A: Museum dayLouvre Abu Dhabi in the morning, then Zayed National Museum or Natural History Museum in the afternoon. You want art and history in a single day.
B: Louvre + teamLabLouvre first, then teamLab Phenomena in the evening (open until 22:00).You want one classic museum and one immersive, photo-friendly stop.
C: Louvre + desert eveningLouvre in the morning, then a late-afternoon desert safari with BBQ dinner. You want a night under the stars before you fly out.

From Friday to Sunday, Louvre Abu Dhabi's galleries are open from 10:00 to 20:30. For weekday hours, check the official calendar. The Dome and the restaurants stay open until midnight, and after the galleries close, access to the museum itself is complimentary, though the galleries are shut by then.

Give the galleries at least three hours. That leaves enough time for lunch and a second stop, and it keeps the day from feeling rushed.

Zayed National Museum is open daily from 10:00 to 20:00, with last entry one hour before closing. Dress modestly, and parking is free.

Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi suits families, and anyone who'd rather spend the afternoon on natural history than on art. The Immersive Theatre needs its own ticket, so check what's included when you book. Our Abu Dhabi museums travel guide compares all of them side by side.

Several of these museums are covered by a Museums Pass, which Zayed National Museum lists as covering itself, the Natural History Museum and the Louvre. If you plan to see all three, ask whether the pass fits your dates before you buy three separate tickets. You can also look at the Louvre + Zayed National Museum combo.

👉 Book Zayed National Museum tickets → Open every day, so it's an easy museum to add to the same day as the Louvre.

teamLab Phenomena is a dark, immersive digital art space on Saadiyat. Some artworks involve water, so wear something you don't mind getting wet. High heels aren't allowed, and there's no re-entry once you leave. Book online in advance. It runs until 22:00, with last entry at 20:00, so it's the best late stop of the trip. See teamLab Phenomena tickets or the teamLab + Louvre combo.

If you'd rather spend your last evening outdoors, the Abu Dhabi desert safari runs from the afternoon into the evening. It includes dune bashing, a camp visit and a BBQ dinner, and the tour page lists hotel pick-up. Wear closed shoes. The tour page recommends warm clothing from October to March.

Don't try to fit a desert safari and teamLab into the same evening, and don't plan a full museum afternoon either. One museum plus one evening activity is the realistic limit.

Book three things first, because they're tied to dates or time slots: the Grand Mosque access pass, your Yas Island park ticket for Day 2, and your Louvre date. For the rest, a flexible plan costs you nothing, because you can book Qasr Al Watan, a second museum or teamLab once you know how you feel on the day.

Browse the museum tickets category for Saadiyat and mainland options, or start from the Abu Dhabi city page to see all attractions in one place.

Three days is enough to see the mosque, two palaces, one Yas Island park, the Louvre and one more Saadiyat stop, as long as you stick to one big attraction per half-day. Fix your dates around the mosque's Friday break, then leave Day 3 loose. If the weather turns, every day has an indoor alternative.

👉 Book Yas Island Multi-Park Pass → Worth a look if you're staying longer than three days, because it gives you six days from the first park to use the rest.

Is three days enough for Abu Dhabi?
Yes, for the main highlights: the Grand Mosque, a palace, one Yas Island park and the Saadiyat museums. You won't see every Yas Island park, but you'll cover the city's best-known sights without rushing.
Can I do two Yas Island theme parks in one day?
Yas Island's own FAQ says each park needs six or seven hours to cover individually, so two in a day is a stretch. A multi-park ticket lets you spread two, three or four parks across six days instead.
Can I visit the Louvre Abu Dhabi in the evening?
From Friday to Sunday the galleries stay open until 20:30. The Dome and the restaurants are open until midnight, and access to the museum itself is complimentary after the galleries close, although the galleries are shut by then. Check the official calendar for weekday hours.
What should I wear at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque?
Women should wear loose clothing to the ankles, with sleeves to the wrists and hair fully covered. Men are asked to cover their legs, and sleeveless, tight or transparent clothing isn't permitted. Qasr Al Watan asks for knees and shoulders covered and no flip-flops.
Which Yas Island park is best in hot weather?
Warner Bros. World and SeaWorld are both indoor parks. Warner Bros. World is fully climate-controlled, which makes it the easiest choice for a summer day.
Do I need to book the Grand Mosque in advance?
Yes. The mosque's official site says visitors should book an online access pass. Check the mosque's visitor pages for current rules before you go.
